From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado local government area of Benue State, Barr Ochai Onazi, has raised concern over the alleged attack and attempted murder of the member, House of representatives for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo federal constituency, chief Philip Agbese.
Recall that Agbese had travelled to Igumale, headquarters of Ado local government area to distribute Easter packages to his constituents, when some suspected thugs came to attack him and his supporters.
Onazi who spoke to journalists in Makurdi, said Chief Agbese, scheduled a programme at Igumale community in Ado Local Government Area, guests were seated when the armed thugs invaded and launched attack on chief Agbese.
“When they heard we were to hold a meeting, early that morning, thugs led by our opponent, broke into the venue of the event, scattered everything and attempted to kill the honourable House of representatives member, Chief Philip Agbese.
“It took the intervention of the military for Agbese to escape the venue unhurt.
“The security operatives that were attached to the honourable member tried to intervene but the armed thugs threatened to kill everyone”, he stated.
The APC leader therefore called on security agencies in the State to go after those behind the attack and bring them to book.
“Chief Agbese was in Igumale to distribute Easter packages to his supporters. He bought several items including wrappers, rice and other items for the vulnerable women in our community but they destroyed everything.
“The attack was unprovoked, unwarranted and undeserved and must be condemned.
“The person(s) who sent these boys do not mean well for our people and does not deserve to be a leader or talk of representing our people.
“Thank God the army has arrested some of the boys and I hope more of them will be arrested”, Onazi stated.
